Youth Programs

The religious education (RE) theme for the 2007-2008 church year is World Religions. The RE church year runs from mid-September through mid-June. Youth classes take place during the weekly Sunday service. Children attend the first few minutes of the service then leave for class.

Nursery/Preschool Care
The official curricula for this class is nurturing care and creative play!

Elementary Grade Class
Children in kindergarten to fifth grade will be following the Spirit of Adventure curriculum, exploring sports and medicine as ways to learn about our principles and purposes. In line with the World Religion theme, we will learn about Jewish, Christian, Buddhist, and Pagan traditions from a UU perspective.

Middle School
By following the How Can I Know What to Believe? curriculum, the Middle School Youth class (grades six through eight) will explore and articulate their UU faith. They will also visit the worship services of other religions, leaning about those neighboring faiths and how they relate to our UU beliefs and practices.

High School
The High School Youth ("UUth") will plan their year with the help of our youth advisors. Possibilities include interfaith or social justice work. A Saturday Overnight is held once per month instead of Sunday morning class.

Additional Activities
Of course, there are other activities that our youth enjoy.  The Middle and High schoolers meet once a month for a movie night. There is also a monthly Game Night for all to enjoy. Holiday happenings are popular too (such as visiting a corn maze at Halloween time).

In partnership with Planned Parenthood, we will offer an interfaith version of the Our Whole Lives (OWL) sexuality education curriculum to 10th-12th grade students. (Parents must attend a mandatory orientation session before classes start.)
